I always laugh when I look at old posts because we never explain anything. Haha. Now we spare no detail!

It’s so much more you! It’s also insane to see in 3 years your posts went from getting 21 comments to 200+

For a while we kept Burger on a leash in the house when we knew we were going out later because as soon as he heard our keys or saw us getting dressed he’d run and hide and it would be so annoying to try to go in after him if he was under the bed. With a leash we could gently guide him out and put him safely in his crate. The funny thing is that he loves his crate (and always had) but he just used to get so flustered when he knew we were leaving.

Once we got it down we just screwed in a 1 x 2 board of wood to cover the exposed area underneath and caulked the edges and painted it with exterior paint to keep any moisture/rot from setting in. Hope it helps!

I thought it would be an easy job, good thing I know to allow a little time!

Did it damage what was underneath? Or was it an easy take down and that’s it? I’m concerned we’ll take it down and then have to put something else up after we remove it and I have no idea what to use!

Hey Kristina,

We painted ours with exterior latex paint in semi-gloss for a nice durable finish. And you can take them down to paint them, but we actually left ours in place and had no problem getting into all the little nooks and crannies with a paint brush. You may want to tape off the house around them so you don’t get any paint on the brick or the siding, but we didn’t even do that and we were a-ok (just go slow and steady and use a good quality angled brush for accuracy). Hope it helps! Happy painting…

Sherry

I have been dying to paint our shutters. This might be a silly question, but did you take them off the brick to paint them? Or leave them up? What kind of paint did you use? I am worried about it chipping off. Thanks!
